I have been searching for ways to let Google know I am a writer with good content. For seven or eight months most of my time has been taken up researching internet marketing strategies. There are a few things I found that will help with this so called SEO. This is otherwise called Search Engine Optimization. It simply means marketing your stuff on the internet. There are several ways to do it and it extends to any content you have on the web like your Subdomain here on HubPages, Blogs, Website. Oh...and you need to market your individual hubs too to get some extra push.
Resourceful Information
What is Akismet?
Akismet otherwise known as Automatic Kismet, is a spam detection service that may be used by bloggers to help detect spamming. This service helps to filter spamming by computer software and persons randomly leaving unrelated or useless comments on blogs. It also checks the amount of comments one person leaves to make sure you are not overdoing it. Multiple comments on the same post that are unrelated to any specific conversation might also be construed as spam, so be careful not to post multiple comments on the same post unless they are a part of an ongoing conversation.
Here is a gift....use it wisely
Do Follow List - with this link you can submit your hubs, blogs and website to the directory so others can visit and leave a comment. You won't find a lot of comments because HP does not really allow for URLs in comments, there used to be...I don't know why they changed that. Some people will place their URL directly in the comments and HP doesn't like that either. But you will get unique views for every visit you get.
You can also use the follow list to comment on blogs. The list is refreshed frequently as others submit new blog to the list. Some are no follow but the list is very useful. Bookmark the page because it never gets old.
Blog commenting
I recently discovered blog commenting as a way of getting my blog noticed. Upon some research on the subject, I found out it has been used for quite some time by bloggers and is very effective. The trick is to leave a useful or worthwhile comment on a blog that has a do follow trail. Ok...maybe that made no sense to you, but at it means is that, when you look at the blog's comments box/capsule it should include an area to leave a URL which is what you want, unless of course you don't care about traffic. You don't have to have a blog to leave a comment, your hub URL or profile URL are good enough. There are four major benefits to blog commenting......actually I don't know of any other benefits but saying major benefits sound much better than saying only benefits..lol. Sorry, didn't mean to go off on a tangent there.

Get your link building campaign off to a good start
-
Drive traffic to your URL
-
Get to know people on the web, networking!

Useful information can be gathered while browsing blogs. There are some really good, even great blogs out there. I know, I have learned quite a few things doing this.
I must warn you that blog commenting is hard work and it takes concentration and energy. My first Elance job was blog commenting, doing 100/week. It was time consuming and tiring. Doing it for your own benefit will pay off. You can pace yourself by doing about five per day. A word of warning though. Even though this is an effective way to drive traffic to your hub make sure our hub is already getting some amount of traffic. Creating links to a site that isn't getting any traffic will send up red flags in Google. But if you have some amount of traffic moderate the amount of links you do each day and Google will see this as a natural action. By the way that 100 blogs per week had the client being banned by Akismet for spamming as that was not a natural action. Who reads 100 blogs per week? On average a person probably reads 3 – 5 blogs per day if they are really interested. That is natural.
How to and not to Comment
If you have been reading stuff from the learning center you will most likely have seen where HP likes a good comment and you might be penalized for making short comments on other hubs. Here are a few examples of bad or unacceptable comments:-
-
great job

Nice blog/hub

Thanks for sharing!
When making your comments on blogs make sure to leave useful, insightful or worthwhile comments relating to the content of the post. Here a few examples of good comments:-

This is really some good information you have here about Blog commenting. I have been searching for ways to promote my blog and I just happen to find this. Thanks for sharing!

Great, Cardisa! I have heard a little about commenting on other blogs, and I've noticed that I've one or two from blogs comment on my hubs. I'm glad you explained more about how that works. Also, I plan to check out the Do Follow list. I haven't come across that in my hub research yet. Very helpful hub. Thanks! I voted it useful, awesome, interesting, and up!
I'm *starting* to see indicators that my G traffic *might* be headed back towards where it should be yet again.
That said, and because I've already written "enough" decent material to feel okay about sharing in comments on blogs. . . I might just have to get after it as you described.
I don't have my own blog yet though I plan to get one. I've joined blogger to follow Steve and Bobbi Weathers (Vietnamvet and Bobbirant). So far I've been leaving comments on their site.
I might be a little confused, were you saying that just by commenting that automatically leaves a link or are you saying to leave your url address when you comment. I appreciate the information as I am still learning the ropes of HP. Voted up?
This is very, very useful information. I started out with a blog on blogger, but then one day last week it disappeared. They closed my blog and google adsense accounts....don't know why. Anyway, I just purchased a domain name and am working on my website now. I decided not to fool with blogger anymore and just focus on HP and my website. You have given me some great ideas to promote my writings! Thanks so much!
Hi Cardisa. I booked your hub. I find it really helpful because you explain the art of commenting really well and although there are a lot of established bloggers pretty much saying to leave comments no one explains how to comment properly better than you. I still can't understand how to use the list but I will work around that. Thank you for sharing these precious information
Hi Cardisa, I have 3 blobs with almost no action but have set them up (one 3 years ago) to provide info on certain niche markets. It seems to me from your article here, that I should build them up a little first, then (and only then) send some comments from my hub pages hubs.
Or, should I find really good hubs (not my own) and make comments on those?
Really appreciate your help and your hubs.
I will have a go. Thank you I am going to forward your hub on Twitter because it's so good!!
Cardisa--on theDO Follow site, it asks for the blog URL. Can I enter a URL for an individual hub? And then enter another? Is there a limit to how many I can enter? I don't have any blogs right now.
Thank You again :)
Hi there,
I agree with the others, thanks for the good tips and warnings ... very usefull for beginners (and more advanced) who do not really know where to start with internet marketing and driving traffic ...
I,e
Hi, Cardisa, great info, thanks! ha ha sorry, couldn't resist! seriously, you are really throwing yourself into learning all the seo's and how to make money, we all really appreciate your hard work, and once again, this is great! cheers nell
Cardisa, Thanks for the info. This was a great hub. Commenting on blogs is something I haven't done yet. I've always known I should and you have given me the extra push I need to get busy and do it.
Great information especially regarding leaving meaningful comments. My blogs get loads of spammy comments that get flagged by my spam filter. Some are even cleverly worded to sound like they came from a serious viewer. I think Google is on to certain repeat comments that are posted across the net.
You are right on when you say that commenting is hard work, it is, but i enjoy it. Sometimes i'm overwhelmed, esp' if i get behind like now, i'm 34 hours late, but i made it, that's what counts........ Good info...
Thanks Cardisa for sharing your knowledge of SEO here. I must admit I haven't ever commented on a blog to get traffic but I will now.
I agree with your advice about writing a decent comment too. Apart from being good SEO practice it is also only common courtesy to leave a comment that shows that you read the article or blog and are genuinely interested.
Thanks for the share. I've tried things like this in the past but must admit I'm not that consistent. My guess is that you need consistency to succeed long term. Might have to give it another try. Thanks for inspiring me to try again.
I hope you really do know how much you are helping people.........
I have written several hubs but the encouraging and remarkable comments which suggest the ideas for making the hub be viewed as an excellent hub is still awaiting. Though I have gone through this hub, but still there is something missing for me.
I enjoy reading hubs or articles. And, when leaving comments; I'm guilty of saying," thanks for sharing the informative information." I've started summarizing my comments into at least two sentences.
I have known about this form of SEO for quite some time now, but I never utilize it - my middle name is procrastination...
I guess I cannot complain about low traffic if I am not doing everything I can to increase the flow.
Thank you for reminding me about this tactic.
Really interesting, pacing yourself seems to be the key here and not going around wildly posting everywhere.
Thanks or the info, voted up :-)
This is very useful information. Even I have noticed the same about the comments that come on my blogs and leave some links to their blog. Though not each comment come with a link, but few of those do have links which made we wonder why that would be! Wasn't aware till couple of weeks before that it actually is a trick to increase their traffic. But later on I read it somewhere and decided to follow the same method. To my surprise it really worked.
Voted up!
This is something I will be trying, thanks. Have you seen good results from blog commenting? If so, how long was it until you saw those results?
I will agree with Cardisa.
Nice information on how to comment on a blog the right way. I also appreciate that little gift you left about the 'Do Follow List'. I can really use that. I'm looking forward to more of your useful data. Thanks.
Cardisa I appreciate the information in this article. I have heard about SEO for quite awhile and have tried to understand how to do it, what methods to use (there are several with some that should be avoided.
As I have mentioned in at least one of my hubs, sometimes I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but lately a couple of the hubs have helped to hone my edge, yours is one of them. I have taken your advice and added this to my favorites bar so that I can refer to it often. Great article, thank you very much.
Cardisa, well said. These are some great helpful tips you have here on the SEO and commenting. I really took something away from this. And again, you are such a great writer:) Take care.
This was very good information for me. I will read more of your hubs that's for sure! Thanks a lot.
Cardisa, always I found your hub in HP home page. I am a 6 months baby to HP and now I understood about your commitment in HP. Wonderful hubs whatever you are sharing is also informative. I have started to read your hubs. Hope I will get a great guidance.
Hey Cardisa, You are so on top of all the information on pushing your hubs out. I'm still doing tons of research so that my hubs, which I love doing, will pay off. So much information, so little time in the day. I appreciate the hub and will +1 the article.
Thank you so much for sharing all your wonderful knowledge! I look forward to implementing some of these techniques!
Hey! Cardish amazing sharing new ideas
great article. It was an easy read. Thanks for writing.
Useful, true. But I think that only USEFUL COMMENTS with an referral link would be those link that Internet users would click on. I mean, an IU (Internet User) surely won't click on link that is related to Opiate Addiction Rehab. if he has nothing with it, and he isn't a part of IU's that are interested in that field of knowledge. But, good article. Continue good work ;)

Thank you for the information you have gained from studying hard yourself.
I particularly appreciate the warning of making sure blogs have a level of natural traffic before doing link building.
