Depression and Hypertension are two of the most serious conditions one person could face. Not all persons experiencing depression will have hypertension. Like wise not all persons with hypertension will become depressed.
Some persons with depression may have a drop in blood pressure while others will experience an increase. Anxiety is usually accompanied by an increase in the blood pressure and in some cases depression is accompanied by anxiety.

Depression is a low sad feeling of dejection that is usually accompanied by some or all of the following:-

What is Hypertension?
The American Heart Association Hypertension Website states that the popular misconception is that hypertension or high blood pressure is linked to nervousness or hyperactivity. They say that HBP is not a personality condition and that anyone can have HBP.
When your heart pumps blood, the force of that movement against the walls of the artery is known as the blood pressure. In other words, it is the pressure of the blood as it pumps its way through the arteries.

What to do if you have HPB or are Depressed
Depression
It is a well known fact that many people who are depressed are the last to know it but with so much information at our finger tips these days we may have an inkling of our symptoms early on. The feelings we face early in the condition take a while to set in and it is during the first signs that the person who is depressed is best able to get themselves checked. If left unattended the feeling will get worse and the irrational thought patterns and behavior will override any thought of being ill. The person will start to deny any thought of depression and will convince loved ones (or at least try) and themselves that they are fine and do not need to see a physician.
At the first signs of the disorder get help by speaking to someone you trust or seeing your doctor. By talking to someone you could save yourself and your family the ordeal that comes with depression and even save your life.
Hypertension
There are no clear cut symptoms that accompany HBP, but some persons will experience dizziness, headaches, vertigo, numbness and blurry vision. Don't wait until you feel any of the suggested signs, get you BP checked at least every three months and in cases where you have have been diagnosed with the condition before once per month is ideal.
If you are a HBP patient (that's what you are if you have been diagnosed), these are some tips for helping to lower your blood pressure:-
- Exercise at least three times per week
- If you are overweight, losing weight will help
- Having a diet rich in potassium
- Healthy lifestyle including balanced diet
- Reduce alcohol intake especially spirits (one glass of red wine per day is not too bad but grape juice has the same effect)
- Get enough rest and sleep
- Reduce the occurrence of stressful situations in your everyday life

Depression is linked to a lot of medical conditions either as a cause, result, or accompanying mental disease.
Interesting about one glass of wine per day, Cardisa. I would like that but I know I would never stop with one, so, I don't keep any alcohol in my house. But a glass of grape juice will serve the same purpose? I like that idea too.
During my late twenties, for a few reasons, I was depressed, off and on for years. No medicine helped. Certainly for some people drugs can help, but my depression was not linked to imbalance of body chemicals, it was basic depression: I simply saw no reason to live. I won't tell the whole story, only what helped: I simply made the decision that no person or thing was responsible for my happiness and/or purpose in life, except me. That's when I began a climb out of the abyss. Good hub, my friend.
Hi Cardisa! I recall you writing an earlier hub on your own personal dealings with depression. That hub really touched me as has this one. Thanks for sharing.
Very helpful article Cardisa. Thank you for sharing..
Excellent information to share as I doubt many people have considered the possible link. Rated awesome.
...actually I have both .... high blood pressure (which I believe to be kept under check with my medication and my weekly excursions to visit Miss C, have some of her Blue Mountains, and her coffee - lol lol lol) what a bombastic joker I am - lol lol - but seriously I have also had feelings of situational depression and have cried because of it - and as you know it's a daily struggle and ordeal for everyone to deal with what they're dealing with all over the world - but as mentioned in my introduction on my home page it's been the best writing experience of my life here at the Hub and made so because of people like you - I couldn't have done this without YOU my friend .....
lake erie time 8:56pm ontario canada 1st of September and the end of Canadian summer - after George Jones I must plays some righteous Toots .....and the Maytals.
I am not sure if I will ever write about my own experiences. But after university I had a horrible time where I just lay in bed and stared at the ceiling or sat in a chair and stared at a wall. If I stay busy I'm able to keep it in check, but I still take small doses of medication just the same. January is a bad month for me because it is dark and choir doesn't start until the third week of the month. Hypertension is not an issue for me.
I've found writing has really helped me. and singing. When I have too much free time I brood. I'm down to 20mg every other day.
Cardisa, nice hub indeed.
I have found you trough some of my followers, and I can tell you - I haven't feel sorry for those minutes dedicated for reading Your Hubs. You have me as a follower, for sure , and I hope that you will find mine Hubs interesting enough too. Continue with these "wins" and ... don't let your head down. ;} keep it real, respect from Serbia.
