‘Tis the Christmas season and we all need a little extra cash to buy presents or do our annual shopping. Whatever it is, you might be looking for ways to earn. Make use of the season to make some money for additional expenses. There are several ways you can use this holiday season to do so.

In general, there are many ways to make money from home; but many people do not make use of what’s in front of them. Each holiday brings new moneymaking opportunities that must be utilized before the season ends. Here are some ideas.

Gift shopping service

Many people have no idea what to get their family members nor do they have the time to shop. If you are good at choosing gifts and have the time on your hands offer your expertise in this matter. You have several options:

  • For someone without a credit card, you can shop online and they pay you cash
  • You can source stuff which are hard to get
  • You can go store to store to pick the ideal gift given that you will have more time to scout the shops before actually choosing something; many cannot afford this luxury.

Gift wrapping service

This is a service you can do alone or add to your gift shopping service. With a little finesse, you can set up a stall at the mall, a prominent store or (depending where you live) right at your gate. There are so many places to choose from. Just make sure you get the right permission to set up your table. Many stores will be over run and shoppers will welcome the extra service instead of waiting in line at the stores.

Gift making service

If you are artistic any at all, you can make little things that you know people will like. The thing about gifts is that many people prefer the personal touch. I don't really like store bought stuff where hundreds, or even thousands of the same items already exist. Hand-made stuff are usually unique and special. Here are some ideas:

  • Cards
  • Jewelry
  • Pottery
  • Print on t-shirts
  • Satin flowers
  • Drapery
  • Crochets
  • Knitted stuff
  • Quilts

There are so many ideas to choose from I am sure you can find something.

Greeting Cards

This is listed in the gift list above but this can be a service in itself year round. You don't have to wait until Christmas to do it. You can do handmade cards or use graphic software on your computer.

I did this before and found that I was always getting orders. I even started doing invitations. I didn't expand it because my computer crashed at the time but I guarantee that during the Christmas season you won't be out of gigs.

My biggest holiday earners where Christmas and Valentine. If you can write poetry that's even better.

Christmas treats

Can you make candies and cookies? Christmas cookies are popular but not a lot of people have time or the know how to make them. This could be your chance to cash in on their weakness! Wrapping these treats in really nice packaging will catch the eye of buyers.

Grocery shopping and delivery service

There are many people, especially the elderly or sick, who are unable to do their own shopping. This can be done throughout the year as a regular job. You write their list, take it to the supermarket and return their goods; this will work great if their local supermarket does not deliver. You can unpack their groceries and even make them a meal in order to make the service really special. This service could also include picking up prescriptions at the pharmacy.

Making decorations

This is one of the most lucrative money making ventures for Christmas. Not many people, including myself can make Christmas decorations. If you are any good, try doing it for money. I guarantee you will make some sales

Tree and house decorating

I know people and businesses that employ someone to decorate their house or the office. If you are great at Christmas décor, just offer your services to nearby offices. You can even offer to pick out their tree and deliver it as well. Your service should include the purchasing of the decorations and even hand-made stuff if you can.

Some of these elaborately decorated houses are professionally done.

Stocking making

Added to the Christmas decorations is stocking making. You may offer customized stocking with embroidered names for family members.

Catering

This is something I used to do. If you can bake and cook, you will have no problem getting jobs so long as you advertise in your local paper. After your first gig, you should be getting free advertising from word of mouth. Make sure you make the best meal you can so the people who have had your food can recommend you.

Singing

Singing at Christmas concerts and get-togethers may earn you some money if they are paying. Usually I don’t charge but if the concert is a money making concert they will pay their participants. Office parties and reunions may also employ singers.

Photography

Not only for Christmas but weddings, birthdays, Christenings and any other functions; this is a great way to make money. Take photos in the mall and charge a dollar. The park is also a great place to take photos of couples and children.

Snow shoveling

Offer to shovel your neighbors drive way for a small fee. If you are a teen boy you may want to take your girl on a date so make some cash to take her to a nice restaurant. Charge five dollars per drive. Pray that it snows really often this winter so you can make more money.
