Google Redirect Virus Removal With The Norton Power Eraser
What is the Google Redirect Virus?
The Google redirect virus also called the Backdoor Tidserv, Tidserv, TDSS and Alureon redirects you to a totally different, usually irrelevant, webpage every time or at least most of the times you click a Google link.
Don't be alarmed, Google did not create this virus or has anything to do with it. The Tidserv or Backdoor Tidserv was created by those mad computer geeks with nothing better to do.
Believe it or not, there are people out there whose sole purpose is to wreak havoc on other computers. These people think of means and ways to hack or create viruses that will cause your computer harm. Thankfully there are companies like Norton who finds ways to neutralize these viruses.
My Experience
Some time ago, I encountered a problem that whenever I try to click a link from Google I was redirected to another site. Mostly that redirect was to Yahoo search, so I thought this was normal, because when I tried again I would get to the webpage I wanted in the first place. The problem of redirecting me got worst lately but still I never knew I had a problem until I was researching stuff on the internet and found a website with information about the virus.
I still was not convinced and went on my merry way until a few days afterwards I was trying to update one of my blogs and couldn't browse at all. Even clicking my email link would send me somewhere else. That day I was so frustrated, but I tried and tried. I eventually got through to one of the sites telling me about the virus.
The answer came along and I tried it and I haven't had the problem since.
The Solution
What this virus was designed to do is take you to a fraudulent website with bad or fake links to nonexistent products. It was designed to help make these people money by you buying these "products" especially software, by giving them your credit card information. A secondary reason for this redirect is for taking you to a threat site where other viruses might latch on to your system. The fact is this is not something to leave unattended.
Norton Power Eraser is designed to remove such threats from your system. I am a cautious person so I did not use the link from the website I went directly to the Norton website and downloaded the tool. In less than half hour my computer was back to normal. Read carefully whatever warning that comes with the down load. The Norton Power Eraser also sources any other threats that your computer may have. You don't have to be infected by this particular virus to use the tool. I would suggest running a scan just to make sure. Download the Norton Power Eraser through the blue link above.
Suggestion
- Have a firewall like Zone Alarm installed on your system. This will alert you about threats whenever you visit a website or when someone tries to hack your computer. It also blocks access from unknown sources and will only allow computers that you allow to connect to you.
- Use a secure Browser like Chrome or Firefox. These browsers are very secure and sometimes alert you when you enter a website that has threats.
- Scan your computer often for viruses, worms and Trojans
- Be careful what you download. You must be aware of attachments to downloads. Sometimes a software or game comes with an add-on when you download. This can affect your system and cause problems.
